Theatre Marine is a boat hire business which started operating in 1984 hiring out motor boats and rowing boats from the steps of the Royal Shakespeare Theatre. In his 25+ years running a business on the River Avon, proprietor Richard Payne has worked with the Royal Shakespeare Company, appeared on ‘Rosie and Jim’ and carried out safety work for major BBC productions. He has held a Boat Masters Licence for 35 years.
In 2004 Theatre Marine commissioned the building of a 70ft traditional working narrowboat, ‘Tibet’, from local boatbuilders ‘Stockton Dry Dock Company’ at Warwickshire Fly Boats. ‘Tibet’ has a fully restored vintage Lister JP2 Diesel engine which runs on recycled vegetable oil kindly provided by local restaurants. There are full washroom facilities onboard, together with 240V electrics. It has a 45 ft open hold, which is atmospherically dressed with oak barrels, chairs and ropes and has a partial canvas cover and large umbrella.
Our mooring at The Four Alls, Welford-on-Avon is ideally located to combine a boat trip and a meal, or may provide a relaxing riverside drink for parents of children attending one of our pirate parties (Please check with the Four Alls to confirm they are open). There is ample free parking.
